If You Never Fail, You Are Not...

失敗は成功のもと
If You Never Fail, You Are Not Working Hard Enough

There is a Japanese saying, “失敗は成功のもと” (Shippai wa seikō no moto), meaning “Failure is the foundation of success.”

Mistakes and failures are not always signs of poor performance. Sometimes, they are evidence that you are attempting something difficult.

If you only do what you already know, you may avoid failure. However, you will also avoid learning, growth, and innovation. New ideas do not come with guarantees. When we challenge old methods, develop new products, or enter unfamiliar markets, things will not always go as planned.

Of course, we should not repeat careless mistakes. We must study what went wrong, accept responsibility, and make corrections. Failure has value only when we learn from it.

In business, I do not expect people to be perfect. Perfection does not exist. I want people to think, act, and challenge themselves. If something breaks, we fix it. If an idea fails, we improve it or try another approach.

If you never make mistakes or experience failure, perhaps you are staying too safely inside your comfort zone. Real progress begins when we are willing to take responsible risks.

ABOUT THIS BLOG

I was born and raised in Japan and have spent most of my adult life in the United States. Through this blog, I share Japanese culture, language, expressions, and wisdom. My goal is not to say one culture is better, but to explore different perspectives and what we can learn from them.

Your comments are always welcome.
