When the Money Ends, So Does the Relationship

There is an old Japanese saying, “金の切れ目が縁の切れ目” (Kane no kireme ga en no kireme).
 
It means, “When the money ends, the relationship ends.”
 
It may sound cynical, but it reflects a reality of human relationships. Sometimes we believe people are our friends, partners, or supporters. But when money, business, status, or other benefits disappear, some of those relationships disappear as well.
 
This does not mean that every relationship involving money is bad. Business relationships naturally depend on mutual benefit. The important thing is to understand what kind of relationship you have.
 
Difficult times often reveal this very clearly.
 
When everything is going well, it is easy to have many people around you. When the money is gone or you have nothing to offer, you discover who remains.
 
Perhaps that is when you learn the difference between a connection based on benefit and a relationship based on trust.
