Do You Know Why It Is the Right Way?
We are often taught how to do things the right way.
 
Follow this procedure. Use this method. Don’t do it that way. Someone teaches us what works, and we learn to repeat it.
 
But there is something missing.
 
We may know how to do something correctly without knowing why it is correct.
 
The people who truly understand “the right way” are often those who have tried other ways. They made mistakes. They took shortcuts. They watched something fail. Then they figured out why one method worked better than another.
 
There is a big difference between following a rule and understanding a rule.
 
If you only know the correct procedure, you can repeat what you were taught. But when circumstances change, you may not know what to do.
 
If you understand why the procedure exists, you can think, adapt, and even improve it.
 
This is why experience—including failure—is so valuable.
 
A person who has never done it wrong may know the right way.
 
A person who has done it wrong and learned from it knows why it is the right way.
